From brief to launch

Brief

Project Idea

While MHRide was created to simplify transportation for riders in Medicine Hat, the driver experience was equally important. The idea behind MH-Driver was to build a driver-first platform that ensures ease of use, reliability, and profitability. Local drivers often face challenges such as unfair pricing models, lack of transparency, and inefficient tools when using global rideshare apps. MH-Driver aimed to solve these issues by giving drivers complete clarity on ride requests, upfront fares, and real-time earnings tracking, along with the flexibility to drive on their own schedules.

Build

Development

The development of MH-Driver was centered on creating a robust, secure, and real-time operational platform that syncs seamlessly with the rider-facing MHRide app. The interface was designed to be simple yet powerful, allowing drivers to quickly review ride requests, check passenger details, and accept or reject trips with a single tap. The app integrates Google Maps SDK for navigation and real-time routing, ensuring that drivers can reach passengers and destinations efficiently. Firebase served as the backbone for real-time updates, push notifications, and data synchronization, enabling smooth communication between drivers and riders. A special focus was placed on earnings management, with drivers able to view trip history, monitor income in real time, and access detailed performance reports. Flutter was chosen for front-end development to deliver a unified experience across both iOS and Android, while strong data security and encryption protocols were implemented to protect driver information and payment transactions.

The Solution

The result was a dedicated driver application that empowered Medicine Hat’s local drivers with flexibility, transparency, and operational ease. MH-Driver provided a rides-in-queue system, allowing drivers to view multiple upcoming requests and plan their schedules effectively. With real-time navigation and in-app communication, drivers could seamlessly connect with passengers and deliver reliable service. The integrated earnings dashboard offered full financial transparency, building trust and motivation among drivers. By prioritizing driver satisfaction and empowerment, MH-Driver complemented the MHRide ecosystem, creating a balanced platform that benefitted both riders and drivers while strengthening the local transportation network.
