TCG Compass

TCG Compass is a location-based discovery and community platform built for trading card game (TCG) players and shop owners. Instead of relying on scattered Facebook groups, Discord servers, or outdated shop directories, the app centralizes everything related to local card shops, events, tournaments, and community updates. Players can easily discover where to play, follow their favorite stores, and engage with other enthusiasts, while shop owners get a powerful tool to grow visibility and communicate with players in real time.

The story

From brief to launch

Three chapters that shaped how this project came together.

01
Brief

Project Idea

Trading card game communities are tightly connected to their local shops, but players often struggle to find accurate, up-to-date information about where to play or what events are happening nearby. Details about tournaments, prereleases, and product drops are typically scattered across social platforms, store websites, or handwritten flyers. The idea behind TCG Compass was to create a unified digital hub where players can effortlessly explore nearby shops, browse events for games like Pokémon, Magic The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Lorcana, and One Piece, and stay informed through clean, curated updates. For shop owners, the goal was to provide a simple but powerful dashboard to publish events, share announcements, manage followers, and handle subscriptions with ease. The app needed to feel modern, fast, and community-driven, replacing the messy experience players face today.

02
Build

Development

We structured the application as a real-time, geolocation-driven platform that delivers fast, accurate results for both players and shop owners. The mobile app manages location permissions, map rendering, shop listings, event feeds, and interaction flows with smooth transitions and minimal latency. A robust backend powers shop profiles, announcements, real-time event listings, and a community layer with follows, comments, and messaging for mutual followers. The service also handles shop verification, secure Stripe subscription management, rate-limiting, and moderation flows to maintain a trusted ecosystem. Geolocation services ensure players always see relevant shops and events based on the games they follow, while push notifications keep them informed when a favorite shop posts an update or publishes a new event. For shop owners, a dedicated admin interface allows them to create events, schedule posts, manage visibility, and engage their local community without needing technical expertise. The UI emphasizes clarity, clean shop pages, organized event lists, and an intuitive map view, all designed to make discovery effortless and enjoyable.

03
Outcome

The Solution

The finished product is an all-in-one TCG companion that connects players, shops, and events through one seamless experience. Players can explore local stores, save favorites, follow updates, join tournaments, and message fellow enthusiasts with confidence. The app consolidates everything they need into one place, eliminating the chaos of browsing multiple platforms for information. Shop owners gain a dedicated channel to reach players, promote new releases, and build their presence with verified profiles and scheduled posts. Stripe-powered subscriptions give shops flexible access to premium features and future expansion tools. TCG Compass ultimately strengthens local TCG communities by making it simple for players to participate and easy for shops to grow. Whether someone is looking for their first Pokémon league night or a competitive MTG tournament, the app points the way.
